ALEA: Kimeia Bennett dies after car overturns near Selma

SELMA, AL, (May 03, 2026) — Kimeia A. Bennett, 43, of Uniontown, was killed early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Dallas County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 3:50 a.m. on U.S. 80 near County Road 209, about eight miles west of Selma.

Investigators determined that a 2011 Hyundai Sonata left the roadway for reasons still under investigation, struck a guardrail, and overturned. The impact resulted in the ejection of one passenger.

Bennett, who was riding in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 25-year-old man from Uniontown, sustained unspecified injuries and was transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma for treatment. A second passenger, a 35-year-old woman from Tuscaloosa, was also injured and taken to the same hospital.

ALEA remains the lead agency investigating the crash. Officials have not released additional information regarding the condition of the surviving occupants.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

A rise in traffic fatalities has been linked to multiple behavioral factors, including speeding, impaired driving, and distracted driving, particularly involving mobile phone use. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported 8,055 deaths in motor vehicle crashes during the first quarter of 2025.

While investigators continue to determine the cause of this crash, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner at Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of conducting an independent investigation.

“In addition to law enforcement efforts, an attorney can re-interview key witnesses, review any available surveillance footage from the crash site, and obtain phone or texting records from potentially responsible parties,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Time is critical in cases like this, and families must ensure that all evidence is preserved and thoroughly reviewed,” she added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Kimeia Bennett may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, and pain and suffering resulting from a tragic accident.

“The emotional toll after losing a loved one in a crash can be devastating,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face, and ensuring their legal rights are protected is essential. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the investigation and help safeguard the family’s best interests,” Formica added.
