Kimberly Clark dies after SUV hit by DUI driver in Eau Claire Co

EAU CLAIRE, WI, (April 25, 2026) — A 56-year-old Onalaska woman, identified as Kimberly Clark, was killed Saturday evening in a crash involving an alleged impaired driver on State Highway 93 in Eau Claire County.

According to the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office, Clark was a passenger in an SUV traveling southbound when a northbound truck, driven by 46-year-old Kirk Johnson, crossed into the vehicle’s lane near Severson Road in the Town of Pleasant Valley at approximately 6 p.m.

The SUV driver attempted to avoid the oncoming truck but was unable to prevent the collision. Clark was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities reported that a responding deputy detected a strong odor of intoxicants coming from Johnson and observed that his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. Johnson reportedly told officials he had consumed one to two beers roughly five to six hours prior to the crash.

Johnson has been charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. The incident remains under investigation.

FATAL DWI CRASH INVESTIGATION

In Wisconsin, one person was injured or killed in an alcohol- or drug-related crash every 2.4 hours in 2022.

Impairment from alcohol or drugs reduces a driver’s ability to focus, make sound decisions, and respond quickly to changing road conditions. Alcohol typically takes between 30 minutes and two hours to fully enter the bloodstream.

Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney, shared insight regarding crashes of this nature.

“Beyond any criminal charges, families of victims may have the right to pursue compensation through a civil lawsuit against the at-fault party,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “An attorney can serve as an advocate, helping families navigate this difficult time while protecting their legal rights and ensuring accountability for impaired drivers.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of Kimberly Clark may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. Relatives of wrongful death victims can seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress after a tragic accident.

“We recognize the immense hardship families face in these situations, and protecting their rights is essential,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s interests are represented. Loved ones may pursue compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a devastating incident.”
