Killeen police: Shannon Finch fled in pedestrian injury collision

KILLEEN, TX, (May 12, 2026) – A pedestrian was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon following a crash in Killeen that resulted in criminal charges against a local woman, according to police.

Authorities said 42-year-old Shannon Finch was driving a sedan eastbound on Marlboro Drive at approximately 1:22 p.m. when she allegedly failed to control the vehicle’s speed and crashed into a parked pickup truck towing a trailer.

Investigators said the impact caused the pickup truck to strike a pedestrian who had been standing behind it at the time of the collision. The victim, whose identity has not been released, suffered unspecified injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police said Finch fled the scene without stopping to render aid but was located a short distance away shortly afterward. Finch, a Killeen resident, was charged with collision involving injury and booked into the Bell County Jail.

The incident remains under investigation.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 104,000 pedestrians were treated in emergency departments for crash-related injuries in 2020. The CDC also reported that pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely than passenger vehicle occupants to die in a traffic accident.

These types of incidents are frequently linked to distracted driving, excessive speed, negligent motorists, and roadway designs that place pedestrians at greater risk.

Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney, explained that in cases like this, it is crucial for victims to have an independent investigation conducted by an experienced attorney to help protect their legal rights.

“Having the appropriate resources is extremely important when investigating a pedestrian accident case and establishing negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Factors such as roadway conditions, visibility of traffic signs, and lighting conditions are all carefully evaluated during an investigation. These steps are essential to helping injured victims pursue the financial compensation they may need during recovery.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the pedestrian may be entitled to pursue a personal injury claim. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the emotional and financial strain caused by a serious injury can affect every area of a victim’s life, including employment, family responsibilities, finances, and overall well-being.

“It is important for victims to retain an attorney when pursuing a personal injury claim because the lawyer can negotiate directly with insurance companies on the client’s behalf,” Formica said. “Insurance providers often attempt to secure quick settlements that may be far below the true value of a case. An attorney will fight to ensure victims are treated fairly and receive the compensation they deserve.”
