Police: Kenneth Mills killed in Kings Mountain hit-and-run accident

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC, (March 24, 2026) — An 83-year-old man, Kenneth Mills, was killed Tuesday night in a hit-and-run crash in Kings Mountain, according to police.

Authorities said Mills was struck by a dark gray minivan at about 8 p.m. The driver fled the scene following the collision.

Investigators later located the vehicle in Clover, where it appeared to have been partially covered in an apparent attempt to conceal front-end damage. The driver, identified as Nordic Maxwell Calhoun, was taken into custody and charged with felony hit-and-run resulting in death or serious injury.

The investigation remains ongoing.

HIT-AND-RUN CRASH INVESTIGATION

Leaving the scene of an accident is a criminal offense, yet statistics show that more than one hit-and-run crash occurs every minute across U.S. roadways. Many drivers flee due to intoxication, lack of a valid license, or fear of legal consequences.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, emphasized that a prompt and independent investigation is critical to protecting a victim’s rights.

“Having the proper resources is essential when investigating a hit-and-run case and establishing negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst with Accident Injury News. “Factors such as road conditions, visibility of signage, and lighting must all be carefully evaluated. These steps are necessary to help ensure that victims and their families receive justice and the compensation they deserve.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Kenneth Mills may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Loved ones of victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages following a tragic accident.

“We understand the profound challenges families face after losing a loved one, and protecting their rights is essential,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“A wrongful death attorney can stay informed on the investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests are represented. Surviving relatives may pursue damages for emotional distress, loss of companionship, and other impacts resulting from a catastrophic accident.”
