Kendall Walker tragically killed in Lexington County motorcycle accident

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — A 57-year-old motorcyclist died on the afternoon of June 28 when a vehicle left the roadway and struck four parked motorcycles.

Kendall Lamar Walker and three other motorcyclists had parked their Harley-Davidson motorcycles on the shoulder. The group stopped under the Longs Pond Road overpass around 3:20 p.m.

A vehicle traveling on Interstate 20 near Longs Pond Road, east of Gilbert, veered off the right side of the road. The vehicle struck all four parked bikes.

Walker, of Augusta, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, the Lexington County Coroner’s Office said.

Three other riders sustained injuries and were transported to Prisma Health Richland Hospital for treatment. Hospital officials have not released their medical conditions. Four people occupied the vehicle that left the roadway, but none were injured.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues investigating the cause of the incident.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

South Carolina ranks eighth nationally for motorcycle fatality rates, with 171 motorcycle deaths in 2022 (11.15 deaths per 10,000 registered motorcycles) and 167 deaths in 2021, according to South Carolina Department of Public Safety data.

“Motorcyclists are arguably the most vulnerable motorists on the road,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

Bond, a seasoned motorcycle accident attorney, emphasized the need for an independent investigation in cases like this to ensure the victim’s family receives proper legal protection.

“Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must be thoroughly examined. These procedures are necessary for helping those who have lost a loved one receive the justice that they deserve.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Kendall Walker may pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Bond.

“We understand just what families must go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
