Kelcey Koenig hurt in Harley crash in Painesville Twp on Ohio 2: OSHP

PAINESVILLE, OH, (April 27, 2026) – Kelcey Anne Koenig, 36, of Geneva, was seriously injured Monday night in a motorcycle crash in Painesville Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 8:27 p.m. along Ohio 2 near North Ridge Road. A 2014 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling eastbound on the highway and was reportedly riding on the left berm while passing other vehicles.

Investigators said the operator attempted to merge back into the lane but lost control of the motorcycle. The bike veered off the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch and an embankment.

Koenig, who was riding as a passenger, sustained serious injuries and was transported by Painesville Township EMS to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. The driver, a 41-year-old Mantua man, suffered life-threatening injuries. He was initially taken to UH TriPoint Medical Center by Perry EMS before being airlifted to UH Cleveland Medical Center.

Officials noted that neither the driver nor Koenig was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Alcohol is suspected to have been a contributing factor.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

This accident highlights the risks motorcyclists face on roadways each day. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 83,000 motorcyclists were injured in crashes in 2021, marking an increase of about 5 percent from the previous year.

Candice Bond, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney, said that in cases like this, it is crucial to preserve evidence through an independent investigation.

“Along with reviewing the police report, an attorney will examine all possible contributing factors,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “Legal counsel can utilize resources to engage expert witnesses, perform background checks, identify witnesses, and evaluate insurance coverage. Acting as an advocate, an attorney helps guide victims and their families through a difficult time while working to protect their rights and ensure accountability.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, Kelcey Koenig may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim. Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, explained that the impact of a serious injury can be overwhelming and affect many aspects of a person’s life, including work, finances, and overall well-being.

“It is important for victims to retain an attorney when pursuing a personal injury claim, as this allows proper negotiation with insurance companies,” Formica said.

“Insurance providers often attempt to resolve claims quickly for less than their true value. An attorney, however, will strongly advocate on behalf of their client to ensure fair treatment and appropriate compensation.”
