Keegan Scott Davis, Child Killed in Huntsville Railroad Accident

HUNTSVILLE, TX, (May 13, 2026) – A 36-year-old man and a child were killed Wednesday evening in a train collision involving a vehicle near a railroad crossing in Huntsville, according to police.

Authorities identified the driver as Keegan Scott Davis of Gurley. Investigators said Davis was traveling with two young passengers when the vehicle collided with a train at approximately 6 p.m. near the crossing at Salty Bottom Road and U.S. Highway 72 East.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced Davis and one child dead. A second child sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials have not released the extent of those injuries.

The Huntsville Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision.

FATAL TRAIN-VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The Huntsville Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, and authorities said no criminal charges are expected at this time.

Unfortunately, train-related accidents continue to occur throughout the United States. In 2019, approximately 1,850 train accidents were reported nationwide, resulting in nearly 100 injuries and fatalities. These incidents can happen for a variety of reasons, including human error, track defects, mechanical failures, signal issues, or reckless behavior.

Investigators will review all possible contributing factors as they work to determine the cause of the crash.

Candice Bond, an experienced train accident attorney, said cases involving train collisions often require an independent investigation conducted by an experienced lawyer to help safeguard the rights of victims’ families.

“Train crashes are frequently complex events with many potential contributing factors,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “An attorney can help protect a victim’s family from railroad companies, which often deploy their own investigators to crash scenes and have extensive resources available to defend against liability claims.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIMS

Pending the results of the investigation, the families of Keegan Scott Davis and the child may be entitled to pursue wrongful death claims. Survivors in wrongful death cases may seek compensation for funeral expenses, emotional suffering, pain and suffering, and the loss of companionship and support.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, stated, “Families grieving the loss of a loved one are often overwhelmed by the legal procedures involved in protecting their rights. An attorney can provide valuable guidance and compassionate support during this difficult period while helping ensure surviving family members receive the restitution they deserve.”
