Kate Connally killed in Grimes County tragic head-on accident

GRIMES COUNTY, Texas — An 18-year-old driver died in a head-on collision during an attempted passing maneuver on Saturday afternoon, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

Kate Connally of Frisco was pronounced dead at the scene on State Highway 90 south of County Road 115 at approximately 3:45 p.m.

Texas DPS officers are investigating the fatal collision. Connally was traveling southbound in her 2023 Mazda CX-5 when she entered the northbound lane to pass slower traffic. Her vehicle subsequently collided head-on with a northbound 2020 Jeep Wrangler during the passing attempt.

The impact killed Connally instantly at the crash site. Emergency responders were unable to save the teenager despite their efforts.

Two occupants in the Jeep sustained serious injuries in the collision. Emergency crews transported both the driver and passenger to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan for treatment. Authorities have not released the identities of the injured Jeep occupants. The condition of both individuals remains serious following the crash.

The investigation continues as officers work to determine additional contributing factors.

HEAD-ON CRASH INVESTIGATION

The most common cause of head-on accidents is driver error. However, they can also be caused by drunken driving, speeding, distracted driving, poor road design, inexperienced drivers, and confusion on the part of the driver.

According to AAA, from 2015 to 2018, there were more than 2,000 deaths from head-on collisions while driving on divided highways.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must thoroughly be examined,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

An injured victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury suit pending an investigation.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often seek a personal injury claim to cover the cost of medical bills, future medical care, loss of income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.”

“Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with mounting expenses that an injured party may accrue. An attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes,” Formica added.
