MONTGOMERY, Ala. — A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene early on May 3. The crash happened at around 1:09 a.m. in the 1000 block of Eastern Boulevard.
A 2013 Chevrolet Camaro hit Karla Barclay, 52, while she was walking. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
Police located the vehicle shortly after the accident. Officers arrested a 21-year-old man on felony charges related to leaving the scene.
Authorities have not released details on how the vehicle struck Barclay as the investigation remains ongoing.

More than 2,850 people were killed by hit-and-run crashes in 2022 — a significant increase compared to earlier years.
