HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run on June 3 involving a tractor-trailer and a pedestrian.
The accident happened just after 9:30 p.m. at the Ayerco gas station near the city’s northern business corridor. Kaden Garcia, 21, of Yuba City, Calif., was struck by a tractor-trailer in the parking area while working as a commercial driver. The driver reportedly stopped, reversed the truck, and then fled the scene, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol.
EMS transported Garcia to an area hospital, where staff pronounced him dead about an hour later, troopers said.
Authorities located the driver later that night. The Marion County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is reviewing possible charges.
Garcia’s family launched a fundraising campaign to return his remains to California and assist with funeral expenses.
