Kacie Smith injured after Jeep collides with Ford in Lee County

LEE, AL, (September 25, 2026) – Kacie Smith was injured Friday night in a head-on motor vehicle accident outside of Auburn in Lee County that claimed the life of another driver.

According to authorities, the crash happened around 6:30 p.m. on Lee County Road 188 near Lee County Road 78.

A 2006 Ford Focus collided head-on with a Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by 52-year-old Kacie Smith, of Auburn.

Smith was injured in the collision and transported to Baptist Medical Center South for treatment.

The 43-year-old Sylacauga man driving the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation is underway.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Head-on crashes are among the most serious types of motor vehicle accidents because of the force generated when two vehicles traveling in opposite directions collide. Such collisions can result in severe injuries, including traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and orthopedic injuries.

Driver error is the most common cause of head-on accidents. However, these crashes can also result from speeding, distracted driving, drunken driving, poor road design, inexperienced drivers, and driver confusion.

Approximately 2.2 million people were injured in motor vehicle accidents across the country in 2023, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” added Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and the victim must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, Kacie Smith may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the stress and worry associated with a serious injury can be overwhelming and may affect many areas of life, including family, work, finances, and overall quality of life.

“It is vital for victims to hire an attorney when filing a personal injury claim, which allows them to negotiate with an insurance company on behalf of a client,” Formica added.

“Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with the mounting costs that an injured party may accrue. An attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes,” he added.
