Joshua Dummer charged in Webster DUI accident injuring child

WEBSTER, NY, (May 01, 2026) – A 10-year-old boy was seriously injured Friday morning in Webster after being struck by a driver allegedly under the influence of drugs.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on Ridge Road near Empire Boulevard. Authorities say the child was hit by a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Joshua Dummer. Emergency responders transported the boy to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators determined that Dummer was allegedly impaired by drugs at the time of the crash. He has since been charged with operating a motor vehicle impaired by drugs, first-degree vehicular assault, and multiple traffic violations.

The case remains under investigation as officials continue to gather evidence and review the circumstances leading up to the collision.

DUI CRASH INVESTIGATION

Impaired drivers frequently strike pedestrians, including vulnerable victims like the young boy injured in this incident, because drug use can hinder judgment, delay reaction time, and affect coordination.

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that drugs other than alcohol are involved in about 18 percent of all motor vehicle driver fatalities nationwide.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, shared her perspective on cases like this.

“Separate from criminal charges, a victim may be eligible for compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party,” said Bond. “An attorney can provide critical support during such difficult times, helping protect the victim’s rights while ensuring accountability for impaired drivers.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The child injured in this accident may have the right to file a personal injury claim. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, emphasized that the aftermath of a serious injury can be deeply stressful, often affecting family life, employment, finances, and overall well-being.

“While financial compensation cannot undo the harm caused by a serious injury, it is essential for victims to understand their legal rights and options,” Formica explained. “The injured party in this case may be entitled to pursue damages, including medical costs, future treatment, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.”
