Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

Each year, an estimated 36,000 people die in motor vehicle accidents across the country. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration identifies speeding as the leading cause of fatal crashes, followed by impairment from alcohol, drugs, or medication; failure to maintain a proper lane; failure to yield the right of way; and distracted driving.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission also reports that off-highway vehicles, including UTVs and ATVs, are linked to an annual average of more than 800 deaths and roughly 100,000 emergency department–treated injuries.
