Jose Zacarias dies in Chevrolet 1500 crash north of Edinburg

EDINBURG, TX (April 3, 2026) – A crash early Friday morning along Brushline Road north of Edinburg left one person dead and another injured, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The collision occurred around 2:30 a.m. when a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling southbound near an irrigation canal was struck from behind by a Chevrolet 1500 pickup driven by 34-year-old Jose Manuel Zacarias of Edinburg. The Tahoe veered into the canal while the pickup rolled over. Zacarias was pronounced dead at the scene, and the female driver of the Tahoe was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The DPS said the investigation is ongoing.


CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The National Safety Council reported that 4.5 million injuries occur annually from motor vehicle crashes.
