Jose Angel Avila struck and killed during Dallas vehicle collision

DALLAS, TX, (April 16, 2026) – A 60-year-old man was killed Thursday in a pedestrian crash involving a stolen vehicle in Dallas, authorities said.

According to police, Tyrell Jones allegedly stole a vehicle before crashing head-on into a Toyota Prius at Collett Avenue and Live Oak Street. The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to veer into Jose Angel Avila, who was walking nearby at the time.

Avila suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that Jones has been charged with murder and robbery in connection with the incident.

The Dallas Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Based on preliminary findings from law enforcement, the actions of Jones appear to have contributed to the incident in which Mr. Avila was struck by vehicles.

Pedestrian fatalities in Texas have increased significantly, rising 22 percent between 2019 and 2023. In 2023 alone, the state recorded 5,924 pedestrian-involved crashes, resulting in 808 deaths and 1,457 serious injuries.

Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney, emphasized that cases like this require an immediate independent investigation conducted by a qualified legal team to protect the rights of the victim’s family.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and establish negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Road conditions, signage visibility, and lighting conditions are all important factors that must be carefully evaluated,” she added.

“These investigative steps are critical in ensuring that families who have lost a loved one receive justice and the compensation they deserve.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Jose Angel Avila may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving relatives can seek damages for loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, and other losses resulting from a fatal accident.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, said, “We recognize the profound hardship families experience after losing a loved one, and protecting their legal rights is essential.”

She added, “A wrongful death attorney can closely follow the official investigation and ensure the family’s interests are fully represented. Families may be entitled to compensation for emotional and financial losses following such a tragedy.”
