Jorge Calderon killed in Lubbock County pickup truck crash

LUBBOCK, TX (April 14, 2026) – A 37-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning in Lubbock County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Jorge Calderon was driving a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck westbound on County Road 5300 when the crash occurred at approximately 7 a.m.

Authorities said Calderon’s vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a 2023 Chevrolet pickup traveling north on Farm to Market Road 400 at the intersection.

Calderon was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was transported to Covenant Hospital with minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the Federal Highway Administration, nearly 40 percent of vehicle collisions occur at intersections, often due to drivers failing to obey stop signs or traffic signals. Common contributing factors include impatience, reckless driving, and distracted driving. Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, emphasized that an independent investigation is important to protect a victim’s rights.

“It is critical to determine the exact cause of these types of accidents. An attorney has the resources to examine insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and locate witnesses. We help guide families through this process,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

She also noted that conducting an independent investigation promptly is essential to preserve evidence.

“In addition to a police report, an attorney will review all possible contributing factors,” said Bond. “A lawyer can engage expert witnesses, analyze driver histories, locate witnesses, and review insurance coverage. Acting as an advocate, an attorney helps guide families through what can be a complex process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of any investigations, the family of Jorge Calderon may pursue a wrongful death claim. Survivors of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.

Bond noted, “Grieving families are often overwhelmed by the legal processes designed to protect their rights. An attorney can serve as a compassionate and valuable resource, helping guide a family during this difficult time and ensuring that they receive the compensation they are entitled to.”
