HUNTINGTON, N.Y. — The Suffolk County Police Department’s Major Case Unit is investigating a suspected DWI pedestrian accident that occurred June 22.
A 30-year-old Babylon man struck Jorge Alfaro, 28, of Huntington Station, while driving a vehicle on Carver Street at 2:30 a.m.
Alfaro had been running westbound across New York Avenue when the vehicle hit him, according to responding officers. Paramedics transported Alfaro to Huntington Hospital with serious injuries, police said in a statement.
Authorities arrested the driver, an off-duty officer assigned to the Second Precinct, and charged him with driving while intoxicated.
Police said he was suspended without pay following the incident. Investigators ask anyone with information to contact their office.
