Jordyn Dabelstein dies after truck crash in Lubbock TX

LUBBOCK, TX, (April 04, 2026) – A Texas Tech University student died Tuesday from injuries she sustained in a rear-end collision over the weekend on campus, authorities said.

According to the Texas Tech Police Department, 22-year-old Jordyn Dabelstein was stopped at a red light at Texas Tech Parkway and Indiana Avenue at approximately 9:10 p.m. Saturday when a three-quarter-ton truck struck the rear of her vehicle.

Officials said the impact caused Dabelstein to suffer catastrophic injuries, including a broken back in three places and a severed spinal cord.

She was transported to a local hospital and placed on life support following the crash but later succumbed to her injuries.

Family members noted on a fundraiser page that Dabelstein was pursuing a nursing degree and aspiring to become a registered nurse.

The identity of the truck driver has not been released, and no charges have been announced. The crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

“It is critical to determine the precise cause of crashes like this. An attorney has the tools to review insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and identify witnesses. We guide families carefully through the process,” said Candice Bond, a managing partner with Bond Legal.

She emphasized that, in cases such as this, conducting an independent investigation is essential to preserve key evidence.

“Beyond the police report, an attorney will thoroughly evaluate contributing factors,” said Bond. “A lawyer can engage expert witnesses, review driver histories, locate witnesses, and analyze insurance coverage. Acting as an advocate, an attorney helps victims navigate what can often be a complex legal process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Jordyn Dabelstein may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand what families endure during such times, and safeguarding their rights is crucial. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are fully protected,” added Formica.
