LUBBOCK, TX, (April 04, 2026) – A Texas Tech University student died Tuesday from injuries she sustained in a rear-end collision over the weekend on campus, authorities said.
According to the Texas Tech Police Department, 22-year-old Jordyn Dabelstein was stopped at a red light at Texas Tech Parkway and Indiana Avenue at approximately 9:10 p.m. Saturday when a three-quarter-ton truck struck the rear of her vehicle.
Officials said the impact caused Dabelstein to suffer catastrophic injuries, including a broken back in three places and a severed spinal cord.
She was transported to a local hospital and placed on life support following the crash but later succumbed to her injuries.
Family members noted on a fundraiser page that Dabelstein was pursuing a nursing degree and aspiring to become a registered nurse.
The identity of the truck driver has not been released, and no charges have been announced. The crash remains under investigation.
