EPPD: Jonathan Reyes injured in high-speed El Paso rollover collision

EL PASO, TX, (April 26, 2026) – A 17-year-old passenger was seriously injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash early Sunday morning in far East El Paso, according to the El Paso Police Department (EPPD).

Jonathan Reyes was riding in a 2021 Chevrolet Camaro traveling westbound in the 12200 block of Montana Avenue at a high rate of speed when, at approximately 3:25 a.m., the vehicle struck a concrete barrier and curb, causing it to overturn.

The driver, an 18-year-old El Paso man, suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. Reyes sustained serious injuries and was also taken to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities identified speed as a contributing factor in the crash. The EPPD Special Traffic Investigations Unit is continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding contributed to 29 percent of all traffic fatalities in 2023, resulting in 11,775 deaths nationwide. Excessive speed not only increases the likelihood of crashes but also significantly worsens the severity of injuries.

“Factors such as roadway conditions, visibility, and lighting are carefully reviewed when investigating a crash,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“In some cases, accident reconstruction experts are brought in to help determine exactly what occurred. These resources are essential in helping victims pursue compensation for damages or losses following a collision,” Bond added.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, Jonathan Reyes may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the aftermath of a serious injury can be overwhelming and disruptive to all areas of life, including family, employment, finances, and overall well-being.

“It is important for victims to seek legal representation when filing a personal injury claim so they have someone to negotiate with insurance companies on their behalf,” Formica said.

“Insurance providers may attempt to settle quickly for less than what a case is worth. An attorney can advocate strongly for the victim to ensure fair treatment and proper compensation.”
