MORTON GROVE, Ill. — Morton Grove Police Department is investigating a deadly hit-and-run that occurred June 26 along Beckwith Road near Neenah Avenue.
The crash occurred just before 7:30 a.m. and involved a tan Chevrolet Equinox, which left the scene after the collision.
Jonathan Friedman, a Morton Grove man in his 70s, was walking in the 6700 block of Beckwith when the vehicle struck him.
Emergency crews found Friedman with severe injuries and transported him to Lutheran General Hospital, where he died less than an hour later.
Police found the SUV abandoned about two blocks away near Beckwith and Normandy, but no one was inside. Officers later detained a person of interest and processed the vehicle for evidence throughout the day.
The investigation remains active. Detectives ask witnesses to contact the Morton Grove Police Department with any information.
