John Foriest Dies After Ambulance Overturns in Martin County

MARTIN, NC (September 06, 2026) — John Foriest, 76, was killed Sunday in an ambulance accident on N.C. 11 in Martin County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Foriest was being transported in an East Care Medical Transport ambulance operated by 29-year-old Lauren Nicole McFadden. The ambulance was traveling southbound at approximately 1:45 a.m. when it allegedly veered off the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch culvert.

The ambulance overturned before coming to rest, partially blocking the roadway. Foriest was pronounced dead at the scene.

An on-duty nurse who was also in the transport vehicle was injured in the crash.

McFadden has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle. The accident remains under investigation.

FATAL AMBULANCE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Emergencies frequently require ambulances to respond quickly, but emergency transport personnel must still exercise caution while traveling on public roads.

Several factors may contribute to ambulance accidents, including speeding, driver fatigue, inexperience, and failure to activate emergency lights and sirens. Ambulances are involved in about 6,500 accidents each year, with 34 percent resulting in injuries or fatalities.

Regardless of the findings of a police investigation, Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, stressed the importance of having an attorney conduct an independent investigation into the circumstances of a crash, preserve evidence, and protect the rights of a victim’s family.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Serving as an advocate, an attorney can compassionately guide a family that has lost a loved one during this difficult time while also protecting their legal rights and best interests.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of John Foriest may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Relatives of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“We understand what families are forced to endure, and having their rights protected is vital,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death lawyer will remain informed about the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests are protected. Relatives of wrongful death victims are entitled to seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.”
