OHP: Joey Woodham Died After Two-Vehicle Crash in Choctaw Co

FORT TOWSON, OK — June 7, 2026 — A 69-year-old man was fatally struck in a two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 70 in Fort Towson, Choctaw County, on Sunday, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).

OHP officials identified the victim as Joey Woodham, 69. Investigators report that Woodham was pulling out onto U.S. Highway 70 from Main Street when his vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by another oncoming vehicle. Woodham succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. A passenger traveling in Woodham’s vehicle also sustained injuries in the collision and was transported for medical treatment.

The severity of the passenger’s injuries has not been publicly disclosed by authorities. The identity of the driver of the second vehicle has not been released at this time.

The crash remains under active investigation by the OHP. No charges or citations have been announced pending the outcome of the probe.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Every day across the United States, individuals like Mr. Woodham lose their lives in vehicle accidents, and in many instances, the root cause is the negligence of another driver on the road.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that speeding was the leading cause of fatal crashes last year, followed by the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication; failure to maintain the proper lane; failure to yield the right of way; and distracted driving. Approximately 36,000 people are killed in motor vehicle crashes in this country each year.

As investigators work to determine the cause and establish liability in this crash, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, underscored the importance of having an independent investigation carried out by a qualified attorney as early as possible.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a family who has lost a loved one during this difficult time, as well as protect their legal rights and best interests.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The surviving family members of Joey Woodham may have legal grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim, seeking compensation for medical and funeral expenses, the loss of love and companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.

“A death is legally considered wrongful when a person or entity engages in a wrongful or negligent act that directly leads to another person’s death,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “In situations where vehicle accident fatalities arise from unsafe driving, aggressive or distracted driving, speeding, a hit-and-run, or driving under the influence, surviving family members are typically left with the avenue of pursuing civil action against the at-fault motorist.”
