Joel Wallace dies in Westover crash after pickup truck overturns

WESTOVER, AL, (September 19, 2026) – A Harpersville man who was critically injured Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Westover has died, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Joel S. Wallace, 70, was operating a pickup truck on Shelby County Road 51 near Shelby County Road 280 at approximately 1:38 p.m. when a Toyota Prius collided with his vehicle, officials said.

The impact sent Wallace’s truck off the roadway, where it struck a utility pole and overturned.

Wallace was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.

Additional details were not initially released as authorities continue to investigate the incident.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, 975 people died in motor vehicle crashes in Alabama in 2023, representing a fatality rate of 1.36 per hundred million vehicle miles (HMVM), slightly above the national average of 1.26.

“Contributing factors to be examined include road conditions, visibility, and lighting,” said Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team may sometimes be necessary to help piece together what happened. These resources can be important in helping clients seek monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” added Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.

“Each case is unique and requires a thorough investigation. Time is critical in cases such as this, and the victim’s family must make sure evidence is reviewed efficiently.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, Joel Wallace’s family could pursue wrongful death claims. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand what families must go through, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death lawyer will remain informed about the official investigation and help ensure their legal rights and best interests are protected.”

“An attorney can help protect families from large insurance companies and their legal teams while carefully examining the facts surrounding the accident. An attorney will advocate for a family that has lost a loved one and work to ensure that its legal rights are protected.”
