Jessica Stephens Dies in Christian County Wreck, Officials Say

CHRISTIAN, IL, (October 15, 2025) – A 37-year-old woman tragically lost her life Wednesday morning when another driver failed to stop at an intersection in Christian County.

The collision occurred at approximately 7:50 a.m. on Oct. 15 at the intersection of 1300 East and 2000 North roads. According to Christian County deputies, a Chevrolet Cobalt failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a Chrysler Pacifica on the driver’s side.

Jessica Stephens, 37, who was driving the Pacifica, was transported to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Additional details about the incident were not immediately released.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the crash.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the Federal Highway Administration, about 40 percent of vehicle collisions occur at intersections, often due to drivers running stop signs or red lights. Factors include impatience, reckless driving, and distraction.

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, stressed the importance of an independent investigation.

“It is imperative to determine the exact cause of these types of accidents. An attorney has the resources to review insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, run background checks, and locate witnesses,” Bond said.

She added, “In addition to reviewing the police report, a lawyer can examine all factors that may have contributed to the crash and ensure evidence is preserved. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can guide a victim’s family through what can be a complicated and emotional process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Jessica Stephens may pursue a wrongful death claim. Survivors of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

“Grieving families are often overwhelmed by legal processes,” Bond noted.

“An attorney can provide valuable guidance, ensuring that the family’s rights are protected and that they receive the restitution they are entitled to.”
