ORLANDO, Fla. — A bicyclist was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash on S. Orange Blossom Trail Monday morning.
A 43-year-old Orlando man riding a bicycle was struck around 9:19 a.m. while crossing South Orange Blossom Trail at 43rd Street in a marked crosswalk. The Florida Highway Patrol said a southbound Dodge Ram failed to stop and hit the cyclist.
The truck driver fled the scene, troopers said.
Paramedics transported the victim to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where doctors pronounced him dead. Officials did not release the name of the victim.
Authorities later found the vehicle abandoned and on fire behind a nearby business. Orange County deputies detained Jermaine Williams, 42, of Eustis, who was booked into the Orange County Jail for allegedly leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
FHP is still working to confirm whether Williams was driving the Dodge Ram at the time of the crash. It remains unclear what led to the vehicle being set on fire after the crash. Authorities have not released whether they will file additional charges.
