DEKALB, AL, (April 29, 2026) – A 53-year-old Verbena man was injured Wednesday evening in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 59 in DeKalb County that left one driver dead, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
Authorities identified the injured passenger as Jermaine White.
Troopers said the crash occurred around 5:20 p.m. near milepost 140 close to the Alabama-Georgia state line. A 2003 Ford F-150 struck the rear of a 2023 Volvo tractor-trailer traveling on the interstate. After the initial impact, the pickup crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2020 Ford F-150.
White, who was riding in the 2020 Ford, and the driver, a 47-year-old Jacksonville man, were both injured and transported to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee, for treatment.
The driver of the 2003 Ford, a 62-year-old man from Ider, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver, a 43-year-old man from Staten Island, New York, was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
