FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Irving police are actively investigating the crash.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, 5,975 traffic crashes involving pedestrians occurred in Texas in 2019, resulting in 669 fatalities, marking a 5% increase over the previous year.

Data from the Governors Highway Safety Association shows that pedestrian fatalities in the United States have risen significantly faster than other types of traffic deaths. In 2019, an estimated 6,590 pedestrians were killed, the highest total in more than three decades. Additionally, about 150,000 pedestrians were injured in 2018, according to the National Safety Council.
