Police: Jeremy Danilo Cruz-Sorto killed in Irving chain-reaction accident

IRVING, TX, (April 11, 2026) – A 12-year-old boy, Jeremy Danilo Cruz-Sorto, was tragically killed Saturday night in a pedestrian crash in Irving, according to police.

Authorities said the incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on westbound State Highway 183 near Belt Line Road. Jeremy was struck by two vehicles under circumstances that remain under investigation.

The child suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead following the collision. Officials have not released additional details regarding the drivers or contributing factors.

The Irving Police Department continues to investigate the crash.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Irving police are actively investigating the crash.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, 5,975 traffic crashes involving pedestrians occurred in Texas in 2019, resulting in 669 fatalities, marking a 5% increase over the previous year.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are among the many potential contributing factors that are carefully evaluated,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “In some cases, accident reconstruction experts are brought in to help determine exactly what occurred. These efforts are essential in helping victims’ families pursue compensation after a serious collision.”

Data from the Governors Highway Safety Association shows that pedestrian fatalities in the United States have risen significantly faster than other types of traffic deaths. In 2019, an estimated 6,590 pedestrians were killed, the highest total in more than three decades. Additionally, about 150,000 pedestrians were injured in 2018, according to the National Safety Council.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of Jeremy Danilo Cruz-Sorto may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim seeking damages for loss of companionship, funeral expenses, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.

“It is generally the responsibility of drivers to yield to pedestrians,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. “An attorney can serve as an advocate for the family, helping guide them through this difficult time while ensuring their legal rights are protected.”

Formica added, “Insurance companies often attempt to pressure families into accepting quick settlements that may be far less than what the case is truly worth. An attorney will work diligently to ensure fair treatment and appropriate compensation.”
