Jeffrey Dean Bauman dies after SUV accident near Willmar

WILLMAR, MN, (April 10, 2026) – A 68-year-old Kerkhoven man, Jeffrey Dean Bauman, was tragically killed Friday morning after being struck by an SUV in Kandiyohi County.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the fatal incident occurred at approximately 8:09 a.m. on eastbound Highway 40, just west of Willmar. Authorities said the sequence began with a prior vehicle collision involving two automobiles.

After that earlier roadway incident, Bauman exited his vehicle to check on the occupants involved. While he was outside, he was struck by an eastbound Chevy Equinox. He later succumbed to his injuries.

The case remains under active investigation by MSP officials.

FATAL CRASH INVESTIGATION

Mr. Bauman’s grieving family is left to cope with the sudden and heartbreaking loss.

At such a difficult time, it is crucial for families who have lost loved ones to seek legal guidance. An attorney can help independently gather evidence related to the accident and handle communications with insurance companies, which often attempt to minimize payouts in wrongful death cases.

“Insurance companies are financially motivated to limit compensation and often fail to consider the long-term impact and suffering victims’ families endure,” said Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney and Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“Attorneys work diligently to advocate for their clients, ensuring they are treated fairly and receive the compensation they deserve,” added Bond, a national analyst with Accident Injury News.

Each year, approximately 36,000 people lose their lives and another 1.9 million are injured in motor vehicle incidents across the country. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, leading causes include speeding, impairment, lane violations, failure to yield, and distracted driving.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Jeffrey Dean Bauman may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages resulting from a tragic accident.

“We recognize the immense challenges families face during such times, and protecting their legal rights is essential,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney can monitor the investigation and help ensure the family’s interests are represented. Loved ones may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic incident.”
