Police: Jeffery Ryder killed in Marietta hit-and-run accident

MARIETTA, GA, (March 25, 2026) – A 53-year-old motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night in a hit-and-run crash in Marietta, authorities said.

According to the Cobb County Police Department, Jeffery Ryder, of Kennesaw, was riding northbound on South Cobb Drive at approximately 9:30 p.m. when a 2002 Honda Accord traveling in the opposite direction turned left into his path.

The collision ejected Ryder from his 2025 BMW C400 motorcycle. He sustained fatal injuries in the crash.

The driver of the Honda, identified as 35-year-old Alberto Martinez, fled the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.

HIT-AND-RUN CRASH INVESTIGATION

Officers later located the suspect’s Honda abandoned, but authorities said the driver has not yet been taken into custody.

Martinez has been charged through a warrant with first-degree homicide by vehicle, felony hit-and-run, and additional traffic offenses. Leaving the scene of a crash is a serious crime, and statistics show that more than one hit-and-run accident occurs every minute across U.S. roadways. Many drivers flee due to intoxication, lack of a valid license, or fear of arrest.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, stated that in cases like this, it is crucial to have an independent investigation conducted promptly by a qualified attorney to help protect a victim’s rights.

“Having the right resources is essential when investigating a hit-and-run crash and establishing negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst with Accident Injury News. “Factors such as road conditions, visibility of signage, and lighting must all be carefully reviewed. These steps are critical to helping victims or their families pursue justice and obtain fair compensation.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Jeffery Ryder may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.

“We understand what families endure after such a loss, and protecting their rights is essential,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney will stay informed about the investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests are protected. Relatives may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.”
