Police: Jefferson Zeledon killed in high-speed Greensboro accident

GREENSBORO, NC, (April 11, 2026) – Jefferson Lumby Zeledon, 29, was killed and two passengers were seriously injured following a high-speed roadway incident early Saturday morning in Greensboro.

According to police, Zeledon was driving an Acura RSX at approximately 2:30 a.m. when it struck a parked Chevrolet Cobalt near South Benbow Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The impact caused the Acura to overturn and come to rest in a wooded area.

Zeledon was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities said Zeledon had reportedly been involved in a hit-and-run incident downtown prior to the collision. The case remains under investigation.

ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The Greensboro Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the incident.

Candice Bond, a respected accident attorney, has emphasized that in cases like this, conducting a prompt independent investigation is critical to preserving key evidence.

“In addition to the official police report, an attorney will closely examine all contributing factors,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Legal counsel can engage expert witnesses, review driver history, identify witnesses, and analyze insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help guide victims and families while protecting their legal rights.”

Such incidents may occur due to various causes, including impairment, distraction, fatigue, or reckless driving.

The National Transportation Safety Board reports that more than 19,000 people are injured annually in traffic-related incidents across the United States, many of which are preventable.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIMS

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the injured passengers may be eligible to pursue personal injury claims for medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost income, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.

“Passengers injured in a collision have multiple avenues when pursuing a personal injury claim,” Bond said. “They may file a claim against the insurance policy of the vehicle in which they were riding if the driver is found responsible. This does not affect their own insurance policy, as the claim is made against another party.”

“When traffic incidents result from unsafe behaviors such as speeding, distraction, or impairment, victims often have the option to pursue civil action,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.
