CLARIDON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A fatal two-vehicle accident happened May 7 just after 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Ohio 608 and Chardon-Windsor Road.
A 2016 Hyundai Elantra traveling west stopped at the intersection before proceeding into the path of a northbound 1985 International Scout dump truck. The truck struck the Hyundai on the driver’s side, sending both vehicles off the roadway.
The truck’s driver, Jeff Hazen, 67, of Chardon, suffered fatal injuries. Emergency He was pronounced him dead at the scene.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 66-year-old woman from Rome, sustained life-threatening injuries. Emergency responders transported her to Geauga Medical Center for treatment.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
