Jaymeeson Franklin Dies After Being Hit by Chrysler in Akron

AKRON, OH, (September 26, 2026) – Jaymeeson A. Franklin, 35, of Akron, was killed early Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle on West Market Street, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The crash occurred shortly after 2 a.m. near South Highland Avenue. Authorities said a Chrysler 300 traveling at a high rate of speed struck Franklin.

After the initial collision, the Chrysler crashed into a Buick Encore and two parked vehicles.

Franklin died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Two people traveling in the Buick were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and officials said charges are possible.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Many people rely on walking to travel from one location to another; however, Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) data shows that this form of transportation has become increasingly dangerous in recent years. Drivers should yield to pedestrians when turning, stop at crosswalks, and watch for pedestrians around stopped buses and other vehicles.

According to the GHSA, an estimated 7,148 pedestrians died on U.S. roadways in 2024, including 128 in Ohio.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” Bond added.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of Jaymeeson Franklin may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident,” Formica said.

Serving as an advocate, an attorney can compassionately guide a family through this difficult period while protecting their rights.

“Insurance companies often try to pressure victims to settle for a quick payout for far less than the case is worth,” Formica noted. “However, an attorney will vigorously advocate for their client to ensure that they are treated with respect and compensated fairly.”
