FORSYTH, Ga. — Authorities are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on May 28 following a police chase in Monroe County.
The accident happened at 11:30 p.m. on Interstate 75 south near exit 188.
A sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a vehicle, but the driver refused to comply. The pursuit continued onto Highway 18 west, where the fleeing vehicle lost control and crashed into a tree.
Jason King, 22, was the passenger in the vehicle when the accident occurred. Emergency responders arrived and confirmed he died at the scene.
The driver, a minor from Americus, fled on foot after the accident. Law enforcement launched a manhunt that ended with an arrest at 7:30 a.m.
Deputies found a firearm and drugs inside the vehicle. Authorities confirmed the driver will face felony fleeing, felony murder, and multiple traffic charges.
