LEE COUNTY, Texas — Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal crash involving two vehicles that left three people dead. Officials said a pickup truck veered into oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle.
DPS said the accident happened May 20 at approximately 7 a.m. near the Milam County Line along U.S. Highway 77. Emergency personnel pronounced all three victims dead at the scene.
Officials identified one of the deceased as Jarrett Hawkins, 36. He was a passenger in a Toyota Tacoma that crashed into a Dodge Ram traveling northbound. Investigators said the Toyota was heading south when it entered the northbound lane and struck the Ram.
The investigation remains ongoing and further details were not immediately available.

CRASH INVESTIGATION
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System, there were 33,654 fatal motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2018 in which 36,560 deaths occurred. This resulted in 11.2 deaths per 100,000 people and 1.13 deaths per 100 million miles traveled.
“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must thoroughly be examined,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.
