WHITNEY, TX, (March 31, 2026) — A pedestrian was killed Tuesday morning after being struck by an alleged intoxicated driver along Farm Road 2604 in Whitney, according to authorities.
The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that an unidentified woman was walking along the roadway when a Jeep sport-utility vehicle driven by 56-year-old James Thomas veered onto the shoulder at approximately 11 a.m. The vehicle struck the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that Thomas, a Hillsboro resident, was intoxicated at the time of the crash. He was arrested and charged with felony intoxication manslaughter. The incident remains under investigation.
