POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY, Okla. — Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating a multi-vehicle crash on June 5 that left one person dead and another critically injured.
At around 4:40 a.m., a northbound 1998 Ford Explorer attempted to pass vehicles on U.S. 177 and struck the trailer of a 2021 Ford F-350. The force of the impact pushed the Explorer into a 2002 Honda GL1800 motorcycle. The driver and passenger, a 56-year-old woman, were ejected from the bike upon impact.
OHP said that 76-year-old James Ray was driving the motorcycle when the accident occurred. Emergency personnel transported him to OU Medical Center with severe head and trunk injuries. Ray’s passenger was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigators continue gathering information about the accident.
