BARBOURSVILLE, WV (March 30, 2026) — An 89-year-old Lincoln County man was killed Monday morning in a pedestrian crash in Barboursville, according to police.
Authorities identified the victim as James Elkins, who was collecting aluminum cans near U.S. 60 close to Jolly Pirate Donuts when he was struck by a passing vehicle.
Police said the driver attempted to swerve to avoid hitting Elkins but was unable to do so. Elkins sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead following the collision.
Officials reported no signs of impairment or speeding, and no charges have been filed. The driver’s identity has not been released. The incident is being treated as an accident.
