Jameria Johnson hurt after car overturns in Lee County

SMITHS STATION, AL – (April 3, 2026) A driver lost his life and a passenger was injured following a single vehicle crash Friday night in Lee County.

According to Alabama State Troopers, a 25 year old man from Georgia was operating a Chevrolet Impala on County Road 379 at 7:45 p.m. when the vehicle veered off the roadway, overturned, and collided with a tree.

The driver was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown in Columbus, Georgia, where he later died on Sunday.

A passenger, identified as 23 year old Jameria Johnson of Opelika, was also taken to the same hospital with unspecified injuries.

The crash occurred near County Road 2213, approximately six miles north of Smiths Station.

SINGLE-VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) are investigating the crash.

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, said that in cases like this an independent investigation is often necessary to help protect a victim’s rights.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that must be evaluated,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “In some instances, accident reconstruction teams are used to determine the sequence of events. These resources are important in helping victims pursue compensation.”

Vehicle crashes injure approximately 1.9 million people annually in the United States. Speeding, impairment, failure to maintain lane, failure to yield, and distracted driving are among the leading causes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“Time is critical in cases like this, and evidence must be reviewed promptly,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Alongside law enforcement efforts, an attorney can analyze contributing factors, engage expert witnesses, locate witnesses, and review insurance coverage while guiding victims through the legal process.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending results of the investigation, Jameria Johnson may be entitled to a personal injury claim for damages covering medical and rehabilitation costs, lost wages, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.

“Injured victims involved in crashes often pursue personal injury claims to recover financial losses,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal. “Insurance companies are often unconcerned with the growing expenses victims face. An attorney can help ensure those costs are properly addressed.”

Legal representation helps protect victims’ rights and ensures insurance companies are held accountable.
