Jamal Henry fatally struck on Paxville Highway in Manning

MANNING, SC (June 26, 2026) — A 44-year-old Summerton man died after being struck by a pickup truck Friday night in Clarendon County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Investigators said Jamal Henry was walking on Paxville Highway near Raccoon Road in Manning when he was hit by a Ford F-150 at approximately 10 p.m.

Henry was transported from the scene to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities said the driver of the Ford F-150 was not injured in the collision. The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal collision.

According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the state ranked second in the nation in pedestrian deaths per 100,000 population in 2020. With 187 fatalities, pedestrians accounted for nearly 18% of all traffic deaths in South Carolina that year. Nationwide, pedestrian fatalities also increased by 4% between 2019 and 2020.

“In most situations, pedestrians have the right of way when crossing an intersection or roadway, regardless of whether they are in a marked crosswalk,” said Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, noted that in cases like this, an independent investigation conducted by an experienced attorney is essential to help protect the rights of a victim’s family.

“Having the appropriate investigative resources is critical to establishing negligence in a pedestrian accident,” Bond added. “Road conditions, visibility of traffic signs, and roadway lighting are all potential contributing factors that must be carefully evaluated. These steps are vital in helping families seek the justice they deserve after losing a loved one.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending results of the investigation, the family of Jamal Henry may be entitled to a wrongful death claim for the loss of love and companionship, funeral costs, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“We understand the difficult challenges families face after a tragic loss, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death lawyer will remain informed about the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s legal rights and best interests are fully protected.”
