Jacob Tran Dies After Beaverton Vehicle and E-Scooter Crash

BEAVERTON, OR (June 24, 2026) — Fourteen-year-old Jacob Tran of Beaverton died after being struck by a vehicle while riding an electric scooter Wednesday morning, according to Beaverton police.

Authorities said the collision occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. in a crosswalk on Southwest Scholls Ferry Road near Southwest Loon Drive.

Investigators said Jacob, a rising high school freshman, was riding an e-scooter through the crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The circumstances leading to the collision remain under investigation.

A GoFundMe page has been established to help support Jacob Tran’s family following the tragedy.

E-SCOOTER CRASH INVESTIGATION

People riding electric scooters are especially vulnerable in traffic, making it essential for motorists to remain alert and exercise caution whenever sharing the roadway.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), emergency room-treated injuries and deaths involving e-scooters, e-bikes, and hoverboards have increased significantly in recent years. A report from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), found that 56,847 people were injured in e-scooter crashes in 2022, a sharp increase from the 8,566 injuries reported in 2017.

“Bicyclists are particularly vulnerable on the road, and many different factors can contribute to serious collisions,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“Determining the precise cause of these types of crashes is critical. An attorney has the resources to review insurance coverage, retain expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and identify key witnesses. We carefully guide families through every step of the legal process.”

Bond, an experienced moped and scooter accident attorney, added that prompt independent investigations are essential to preserve critical evidence.

“In addition to reviewing the police report, an attorney can thoroughly examine all factors that may have contributed to the collision,” Bond said. “Legal counsel has the resources to retain expert witnesses, conduct background investigations, locate witnesses, and evaluate applicable insurance coverage. An attorney also serves as an advocate, helping injured victims navigate what can often be a complex legal process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Jacob Tran may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and other damages resulting from this tragic accident.

“The grief and emotional hardship following the loss of a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face during these difficult times, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation while working to safeguard the family’s best interests.”

“An experienced attorney can also protect families from large insurance companies and their legal teams while conducting a thorough review of the facts surrounding the accident. Legal counsel will strongly advocate on behalf of those who have lost a loved one to ensure their rights remain protected.”

Additionally, an injured victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim. Formica noted: “Victims injured in a collision often pursue a personal injury claim to recover compensation for medical expenses, future medical treatment, lost income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.”
