Police: Izayah Wood fatally hit near Loop 410 in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, TX, January 08, 2026 — A 19-year-old man was killed in a pedestrian crash early Thursday in San Antonio, police reported.

According to authorities, Izayah Jacob Wood was crossing near U.S. Route 90 and Gunsmoke Drive around 12:30 a.m., close to the Loop 410 interchange, when he was struck by a vehicle.

Wood was pronounced dead at the scene. No additional details have been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Incident Location

FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Authorities are investigating the crash, highlighting the dangers pedestrians face on roadways. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, 5,975 pedestrian-involved traffic crashes occurred in Texas in 2019, resulting in 669 deaths—a 5% increase over the previous year.

“Investigators consider road conditions, visibility, and lighting as potential contributing factors,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Accident reconstruction specialists may be required to determine how the collision occurred. These investigative resources are essential to help clients pursue compensation for damages or losses following a crash.”

Data from the Governors Highway Safety Association shows pedestrian fatalities in the U.S. have grown faster than all other traffic deaths. An estimated 6,590 pedestrians died in 2019, the highest total in more than 30 years.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of Izayah Jacob Wood may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim, potentially covering loss of companionship, funeral expenses, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.

“It is generally a driver’s duty to yield to pedestrians,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. “An attorney can compassionately guide a family through this difficult time while ensuring their legal rights are protected.”

Formica added, “Insurance companies often attempt to pressure families into quick settlements for less than the claim’s true value. A skilled attorney will advocate vigorously to ensure families are treated fairly and receive full compensation.”
