MORONGO VALLEY, CA, (April 24, 2026) – A 67-year-old Joshua Tree resident was killed and five others were injured Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Twentynine Palms Highway in Morongo Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The victim was identified as Ivy Fitzgerald. Authorities said the crash occurred around 2:40 p.m. on State Route 62 at the intersection of Rose Eden Drive.
Preliminary reports indicate that a Dodge Caliber traveling westbound attempted a U-turn across eastbound lanes, entering the path of an oncoming Honda Civic. The Honda struck the right rear of the Dodge in the No. 1 eastbound lane.
Fitzgerald, who was a passenger in the Dodge, was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.
The driver of the Dodge declined medical transport. The driver of the Honda and her three juvenile passengers were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by CHP.
