Police: Isreal Ramirez Sanchez charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash

SANTA ROSA, CA, (May 11, 2026) – A man in a wheelchair was killed Monday afternoon in a hit-and-run crash in Santa Rosa, according to police.

Authorities said the collision occurred at approximately 2:52 p.m. on Clover Drive.

Investigators reported that the unidentified victim was crossing the intersection when a pickup truck driven by 21-year-old Isreal Ramirez Sanchez struck him in the crosswalk.

According to police, Sanchez had been stopped at a red light before the collision. The victim was still crossing the street when the signal for eastbound traffic turned green.

Police said the driver began moving through the intersection at a slow speed and collided with the pedestrian.

Authorities allege Sanchez and a female passenger exited the pickup truck and approached the victim before returning to the vehicle and fleeing the scene.

Sanchez was later located and arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in death.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.

FATAL HIT-AND-RUN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than one out of every 10 fatal crashes in California involves a hit-and-run collision.

From 2017 through 2021, California recorded 1,901 hit-and-run fatalities out of 18,137 deadly crashes, the highest number nationwide and significantly above the national average of 6.33 percent. Authorities note that some drivers flee crash scenes due to intoxication, lack of a valid license, or fear of arrest.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, said cases like this often require an independent investigation to help preserve evidence and protect the rights of grieving families.

“Having the proper resources is crucial to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst with Accident Injury News.

“Road conditions, visibility of signage, and roadway lighting are all possible contributing factors that must be carefully examined,” Bond added. “These investigative steps are important in helping families pursue justice and financial compensation after losing a loved one in a hit-and-run crash.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of the victim killed in this accident may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Relatives of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, and pain and suffering following a tragic accident.

“We understand the difficult challenges families are forced to endure after a fatal crash, and protecting their rights is critically important,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“A wrongful death attorney can remain informed on the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests are protected. Surviving relatives of wrongful death victims may pursue damages for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other losses following a catastrophic accident,” Formica added.
