Ira Vidal Broadway arrested in Minneapolis hit-and-run, police report

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, (October 07, 2025) — A 9-year-old girl was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash on Oct. 7 in Minneapolis.

According to police, the young victim was struck by a GMC Yukon SUV driven by Ira Vidal Broadway at the intersection of West Broadway Avenue and Bryant Avenue North. Investigators said Broadway fled the scene after the collision and later admitted to taking fentanyl before the crash.

The child was rushed to the hospital with a broken pelvis. Authorities in Ramsey County located Broadway on Friday and attempted a traffic stop, but he fled again before being apprehended. He was later arrested and charged with two counts of criminal vehicular operation.

Incident Location

HIT-AND-RUN CRASH INVESTIGATION

Drivers are required by law to remain at the scene of an accident and immediately contact 911 or law enforcement.

Failing to do so is a crime. Many suspects flee because they are intoxicated, unlicensed, or fear arrest. According to court records, Broadway told police he ran because he was “frightened.”

Imagine how terrified the 9-year-old must have been after being struck.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney and Managing Partner at Bond Legal, said that independent investigations are essential in cases like this to protect victims’ rights.

“Having the proper resources is crucial to investigating a hit-and-run accident case and proving negligence,” said Bond.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that must be thoroughly reviewed. These procedures are vital to help victims and families receive the justice and compensation they deserve.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The injured 9-year-old girl may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the stress and disruption following a severe injury can impact every part of life — from family and finances to emotional well-being.

“While no amount of money can undo the trauma, it’s crucial for victims to understand their rights and the compensation they’re entitled to under the law,” Formica said. “The injured child in this case may seek recovery for medical expenses, future care, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.”
