Indio Police: Estela Garza Dies in Pedestrian Crash

Indio, CA (July 4, 2026) — A 75-year-old woman from Bermuda Dunes was killed in a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision Saturday night in Indio, authorities said.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Estela Garza. The crash occurred around 11 p.m. at the intersection of Golf Center Parkway and Avenue 44. According to preliminary reports, a white Audi sedan was traveling north on Golf Center Parkway when it struck the pedestrian.

Garza was taken to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Indio police said the Audi driver remained at the scene following the crash.

Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call 760-391-4303. The investigation is ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Walking on American roads has grown increasingly dangerous over the years, largely driven by the rise of heavier vehicles like SUVs and pickup trucks, speed-oriented road design, and reckless driver behavior. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), 84 percent of pedestrian deaths in 2023 occurred in urban areas, up from 59 percent in 1975.

“In most cases, pedestrians have the right of way when crossing an intersection or street, whether or not they’re in a marked crosswalk,” said Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, noted that in cases such as this, it’s essential to have a seasoned lawyer conduct an independent investigation to help protect the rights of the victim.

“Having the right resources is essential in any pedestrian accident investigation, helping make sure evidence is properly collected, reviewed, and documented so investigators can determine whether negligence played a role,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the family of Estela Garza may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim for the loss of love and companionship.

“Losing a loved one in an accident brings a level of grief and stress that can feel unbearable,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“We know firsthand what families go through in these situations, and protecting their rights matters greatly. A wrongful death lawyer stays closely engaged with the official investigation to help safeguard their legal rights and best interests.”
