Imani Vaughn dies in rollover crash in Graham NC

GRAHAM, NC, (March 28, 2026) — A 29-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash Saturday night at an intersection in Graham, according to police.

The Graham Police Department said the crash occurred at approximately 9:17 p.m. near South Main Street and Moore Street when a 2020 Jeep Wrangler and a 1999 Ford Mustang collided.

Following the impact, the Jeep overturned. A passenger in the Jeep, identified as Imani Janel Vaughn, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep was transported to a hospital with injuries, while the condition of the 19-year-old driver of the Mustang was not immediately known.

The crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the National Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA), rollover crashes account for about 30 percent of passenger vehicle occupant deaths.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identifies speeding as the primary cause of fatal crashes, followed by impairment from alcohol or drugs, failure to maintain lane position, failure to yield, and distracted driving.

Data from the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) shows that 284,157 traffic crashes occurred in the state in 2023, resulting in approximately 1,686 fatalities.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are among the factors that must be carefully evaluated,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“It is essential to determine the precise cause of these types of crashes. An attorney has the ability to review insurance coverage, consult expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and identify witnesses. We help guide families through the legal process.”

“In some cases, accident reconstruction specialists are necessary to determine exactly what happened. These resources are critical in helping victims or their families obtain compensation for losses resulting from a collision,” added Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Imani Vaughn may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following such tragic incidents.

“The grief and stress following the loss of a loved one can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the difficulties families face, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will stay informed about the investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”

“An attorney can also shield victims’ families from insurance companies and their legal teams while carefully examining all aspects of the case. Legal representation ensures that families receive strong advocacy and protection of their rights.”
