Idrisu Issaku dies in Charlotte truck accident, police say

CHARLOTTE, NC, (July 06, 2026) – A 53-year-old man died Monday morning after being struck by a tractor-trailer in southeast Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Investigators said Idrisu Issaku, 53, was struck by an 18-wheeler shortly after 8 a.m. near the intersection of East Independence Boulevard and Village Lake Drive.

Emergency responders transported Issaku to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police said the preliminary investigation determined the tractor-trailer was backing toward a loading dock when Issaku became caught between the truck and the loading dock wall.

The investigation into the fatal incident remains ongoing.

FATAL TRACTOR-TRAILER ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Police said the preliminary investigation determined that the tractor-trailer was backing toward a loading dock when Idrisu Issaku became trapped between the truck and the loading dock wall.

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), numerous factors can contribute to semi-truck crashes, including brake failures, speeding, prescription drug use, unfamiliarity with roadways, lane departures, improper truck maneuvers, and driver fatigue.

Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney, said that in cases such as this, it is important for an independent investigation to be conducted promptly by an experienced attorney to help protect the rights of a victim’s family.

“Tractor-trailer crashes are often complex, and many factors can contribute to these types of incidents,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News. “An experienced attorney can help protect a grieving family from trucking companies, which frequently dispatch their own investigators to crash scenes and have significant resources available to defend negligent drivers. Legal counsel can retain expert witnesses, conduct driver background investigations, identify witnesses, review insurance coverage, and compassionately guide a family through the legal process.”

According to federal statistics, a person is killed or seriously injured every 15 minutes in a crash involving a semi-truck. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration data also indicate that approximately 5,000 people are killed in semi-truck crashes each year.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Idrisu Issaku may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members may seek compensation for the loss of love and companionship, funeral expenses, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident such as this.

“The stress and grief following the loss of a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal and also a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

“We understand the challenges families are forced to endure, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s rights and best interests are fully protected,” Formica added.
