Huntington Beach collision kills woman, Lukas McArgue DUI arrest

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA – April 15, 2026 – A 53-year-old woman was killed Wednesday night in a suspected DUI crash in Huntington Beach, California, according to police.

Authorities said the collision occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Pacific Coast Highway, south of Warner Avenue, when a BMW 328i driven by 23-year-old Lukas McArgue allegedly rear-ended a Kia Soul.

The impact caused the victim’s vehicle to become partially submerged in a nearby marsh area. The woman died as a result of her injuries. Her identity has not been released.

Police arrested McArgue at the scene. He has been charged with suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI involving alcohol and drugs causing bodily injury.

The investigation remains ongoing.

DUI CRASH INVESTIGATION

Alcohol-impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of fatal and serious injury crashes in California, according to the state’s Office of Traffic Safety.

In 2023, 1,355 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes, marking a 55 percent increase compared to 2014.

Impaired drivers often experience reduced judgment, slower reaction times, poor coordination, and limited awareness of road conditions. Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney, shared her perspective on such cases.

“Separate from criminal proceedings, families of victims may pursue compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and national analyst with Accident Injury News.

“In addition to law enforcement efforts, attorneys can re-interview witnesses, review surveillance footage, and obtain phone and text records of those involved. Legal counsel helps ensure victims’ families are supported while holding impaired drivers accountable for their actions.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of the victim killed in this accident may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families in such cases may seek damages for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and the impact of losing a loved one in a sudden tragedy.

“We understand the immense pain families endure in these situations, and protecting their rights is essential,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney can closely follow the investigation and ensure that the family’s legal rights and interests are fully protected. Families may pursue damages for emotional distress, loss of companionship, and suffering after such a devastating incident.”
