Holly Williams Killed When Semi Hits Disabled SUV in Pusheta Twp

Pusheta Township, OH (June 28, 2026) — A 48-year-old Michigan woman and an 11-year-old child were killed in a crash involving a semi-truck early Sunday morning just south of Wapakoneta.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Howell, Michigan resident Holly Williams was driving a Ford Explorer north on Interstate 75 shortly after 4 a.m. when the SUV veered off the left side of the highway and struck a cable barrier in Pusheta Township. The vehicle then re-entered the roadway and crossed into the right lanes before becoming disabled.

Troopers said a 54-year-old male passenger exited the SUV in an attempt to push it off the road just before a semi-truck struck the disabled vehicle from behind.

Williams and the 11-year-old child inside the SUV, both of whom were wearing safety belts, were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The passenger sustained minor injuries in the crash, while the driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.

FATAL SEMI-TRUCK ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The crash remains under investigation by the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Several factors can contribute to a tractor-trailer crash, including loss of vehicle control, disabling or non-disabling mechanical failures, and driver fatigue.

Candice Bond, an experienced tractor-trailer accident attorney, said that in cases such as this, it’s critical to have a prompt, independent investigation conducted in order to protect the rights of the victims’ families.

“Tractor-trailer crashes tend to be highly complex, with numerous factors potentially contributing to the outcome,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “A skilled attorney can shield a grieving family from trucking companies, which often dispatch their own investigators to crash scenes and have considerable resources available to defend a negligent driver. An attorney can advocate on a family’s behalf by retaining expert witnesses, conducting driver background checks, locating witnesses to the crash, and reviewing applicable insurance coverage—all while carefully guiding them through the legal process.”

In 2021, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 5,788 people died in traffic crashes involving large trucks, a 17 percent increase from 2020. Additionally, 72 percent of those killed in such crashes that year were occupants of other vehicles.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIMS

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the families of Holly Williams and the 11-year-old victim may be entitled to pursue wrongful death claims. Relatives of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of love and companionship, funeral expenses, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this one.

“The grief and stress that come with losing a loved one in an accident can be truly overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “We understand exactly what families go through during a time like this, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will stay closely informed on the official investigation and work to ensure that the family’s legal rights and best interests are fully protected.”
