Hit-and-run arrest: Kathy Dove in North Port accident

NORTH PORT, FL (April 12, 2026) – A 59-year-old woman was arrested Sunday night following a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian seriously injured, according to the North Port Police Department.

Authorities said the incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. on Price Boulevard near Purdue Street. A passing motorist discovered an adult male lying in the roadway after the collision.

Investigators recovered fragments of a broken side-view mirror at the scene, while surveillance footage showed a light-colored vehicle in the area around the time of the crash. The victim was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police later traced the vehicle to Kathy Dove’s residence, where they located a yellow Hummer SUV with front-end damage and a missing mirror. Dove admitted to driving but claimed she believed she struck a traffic cone.

She was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving great bodily injury or death. The investigation remains ongoing.

HIT-AND-RUN INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime, and statistics show that about 11 percent of all crashes involve a hit-and-run driver. In many cases, at-fault drivers believe they can avoid consequences by fleeing, but they will face charges once identified.

Attorney Candice Bond stressed the importance of a timely, independent investigation to safeguard a victim’s rights. “Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“Road conditions, visibility of signage, and lighting conditions are all factors that must be carefully reviewed. These steps are essential in helping injured victims obtain justice and financial compensation after a hit-and-run crash.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending an investigation, a victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, noted that the stress caused by an injury can be overwhelming and disruptive to all aspects of life.

“It is important for victims to retain an attorney when filing a personal injury claim so they can effectively negotiate with insurance companies,” Formica said.

“Insurance companies often try to pressure victims into accepting quick settlements for far less than a claim is worth. However, an attorney will strongly advocate for their clients to ensure fair treatment and appropriate compensation.”
