NORTH PORT, FL (April 12, 2026) – A 59-year-old woman was arrested Sunday night following a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian seriously injured, according to the North Port Police Department.
Authorities said the incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. on Price Boulevard near Purdue Street. A passing motorist discovered an adult male lying in the roadway after the collision.
Investigators recovered fragments of a broken side-view mirror at the scene, while surveillance footage showed a light-colored vehicle in the area around the time of the crash. The victim was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police later traced the vehicle to Kathy Dove’s residence, where they located a yellow Hummer SUV with front-end damage and a missing mirror. Dove admitted to driving but claimed she believed she struck a traffic cone.
She was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving great bodily injury or death. The investigation remains ongoing.
